wow. did they retcon the entire Miyano family tree sometime between episode 571 and 953? because the MyAnimeList entries for both Haibara and her big sister Akemi still TODAY state they're sisters. every time the two are mentioned in the Funimation Edub and the fansubs (up to episode 571 where i am at today, also up to Movie 13 which was the last one i watched recently) they're mentioned as Haibara was the little sister and Akemi was the older sister.

That aside, even if they broke up (for professional reasons :p), I use "similar" there to mean "resembling, but not necessarily identical". Shinichi and Ran aren't officially dating at this point either, but she has feelings for him, and ofc the Crows tried to kill him and now he's in hiding.

ah, ok. let me explain where you're wrong. at the most basic level, Ran and Shinichi are in a long-distance relationship. they don't see each other often, but they talk on the phone frequently, and exchange emails and texts. they're also not dating anybody else.

Akai broke up with Jodie, went deeper into the BO... when he got deep enough that he thought he didn't need Akemi, he broke up with her too. actually telling her he was dating her just to dig deeper into the BO and he was FBI. which she'd guessed also before he even told her.

Akai's cover is blown etc. he gets out of Japan. later on after that, Akemi texts him and says, 'i think i've got a way out for me and my sister. if i can get out and survive, will you date me for real?' she's involved in the bank robbery as a teller at the order of the BO annd they betray her and Gin n Vodka shoot her taking a coin-locker key from her. annd Conan holds her as she dies and gives him her last words... and the ACTUAL key where she hid the money from the bank robbery.

so from there Akai 'finds out' about Akemi annd swears vengeance etc. etc. and joins James Black's anti-BO taskforce annd runs into Jodie again.

no they're not, Akai broke up with Jodie in that flashback conversation in her car so he could date Haibara's older sister Miyano Akemi. this scene appears to happen back when he still had his long black hair and hadn't been outed as a threat to the BO.

what use is carrying around an UNLOADED firearm? menacing? whacking somebody with it? taking the ammo out of a firearm turns it into a VERY expensive CLUB!

annnd? once more i say it again, what use is having a gun on you without any ammo? it's just a hunk of metal and plastic without it. if he was going to unload it, he would have done so IMMEDIATELY and placed the rounds... say in the nearest... oh garbage can... it is a bathroom. just push the button, eject the magazine, push the ammo out of the magazine into the trash-can, then retract the slide on the pistol to ensure there's no round in the chamber. allow the slide to return to the forwards position and replace the now empty magazine in the grip of the pistol. after all that, it is an entirely inert and useless item until a new magazine with ammo inside is inserted. wiggle the trash inside the can around to hide the ammo and bingo-bango no blammo!

but no, that didn't happen. Conan kept a loaded firearm on his person JIC it was needed. he merely told the kids he wasn't going to use it to reassure them.

if Conan had been truly smart he would have taken the laces out of those two guys' shoes and the belts off their pants and hogtied them... and probably stuffed something into the guys' mouths so they couldn't yell for help. like huge wads of toilet paper. you tie their ankles and wrists together behind their backs with their belts and one shoelace. then he could have used the other two shoestrings to wrap around their faces and heads keeping the huge wads of toilet paper inside their mouths.

hogtying those two guys up would have entirely secured them till the police arrived and there you have it. no Conan gets grabbed by the fat guy, no fat guy finds the gun, no Akai shoots the fat guy.

easy peasy chicken greasy case solved because the other three dudes had already used the tape to tie themselves up, blind, and muzzle themselves.

but no, that's not what happened... hindsight is 20/20.

and yes Conan does know how to operate firearms and small watercraft. he convinced his father to teach him at a local shooting range near their home in Hawaii. plus, the Kudo family is loaded and has more than one watercraft at the same house.
